Let's Talk About Shower Scrubs!
Today I am answering some common questions I receive regarding our shower scrubs. Stay tuned for future blog posts; we will be featuring our shower scrubs and sharing more, in-depth, characteristics about each of our scrubs. How much shower scrub should I use? Some folks use a lot, some use less. This will be up to you. I’m pretty liberal with my application, so one of our 2 ounce trial size jars will serve me well for at least 2-3 showers using the scrub from the neck down. Based off that estimation, I use around an ounce each shower, though, I haven’t measured it exactly. And lets be honest, I can knock out an entire mini scrub in one sitting if I’m not careful, because I’m in the camp of folks that use a lot. Can shower scrubs be used on your face? Yes. However, this depends on how your skin reacts to coarser scrubs. Use your best judgement. All of our scrubs can be used on your entire body -- including your face. If you have sensitive skin that doesn’t handle grainier textures, you may want to stick with our face masks that have finer exfoliating properties. As with any exfoliating products for your face, it’s imperative you gently exfoliate by using small light circular motions on your skin rather than scrubbing. (Scrubbing = NO). How often can I use a scrub? Daily? Weekly? Again, this depends on your skin type. Our sugar scrubs are gentle, and personally, I can use them on my body daily, and on my face every-other-day. It’s recommended to exfoliate your skin 3-4 times a week to remove dead skin cells to uncover new skin cells, so experiment with what works for you. Obviously, if you find your skin becoming dry or irritated, scale back.
How long do scrubs last? Our shower scrubs are made-to-order without the use of any synthetic preservatives, which means, the sooner the better. Once opened, it’s best to use your product within 1-2 months. You can even extend the life of your scrub by storing it tightly sealed in your refrigerator. Bamboo scoops are provided for our 8 ounce full-sized shower scrubs so you can stir and evenly distribute the scrub as the ingredients may compress a bit during shipping. Being able to scoop the amount of shower scrub you would like to use helps prevent water getting into the jar, which aids in extending the life of your product. Water is a breeding ground for bacteria and can contribute to the break down of our fresh ingredients. Keeping water out of your products is always a good idea.
At my home, I don’t leave my scrubs in the shower because I share bathroom space with 3 others. (Sounds like fun, right?) I like to scoop out what I need into a small dish and bring it into my shower with me. Not only does this help keep water out of my shower scrub jar, it’s also a great way to keep your scrub fresh since it won’t be dealing with temperature fluctuations. Do you have a favorite scent? Asking me which is my favorite scent is like asking me which child is my favorite. It depends on the day! I'm kidding.... kind of.
